About DOT Compliance Solutions
DOT Compliance Solutions is a California-based regulatory compliance consulting firm for motor carriers. We help trucking companies, school bus and passenger operators, and private fleets build and keep the programs that FMCSA investigators and California Highway Patrol inspectors check, so an audit or terminal inspection confirms what is already in place.
What we do
Compliance organized the way inspectors review it
An FMCSA investigator or a CHP Motor Carrier Specialist looks at the same areas every time. We organize our work around them, so a full engagement covers everything an inspector will.
- Audit and inspection readinessNew entrant safety audits, FMCSA compliance reviews, CHP terminal inspections and mock audits.
- Driver qualification and monitoringDriver files, medical certificates, annual reviews and California Employer Pull Notice enrollment.
- Drug and alcohol programsTesting program setup and review, random testing and Clearinghouse queries for CDL drivers.
- Hours of service and ELDsLog audits and ELD ruleset setup for federal and California intrastate drivers.
- Vehicle maintenance recordsDriver inspection reports, annual inspections and the repair records that prove the work was done.
- Registrations and permitsUSDOT registration and updates, the CHP CA number and the DMV Motor Carrier Permit.
- Safety recordCSA score review, roadside inspection follow-up and the accident register.
Who we work with
Fleets of every size that answer to DOT and CHP rules
- Trucking companiesFrom owner-operators with a new USDOT number to mid-size fleets with several terminals.
- School bus and pupil transportationOperators working under California’s separate school bus inspection and certification programs.
- Passenger and motorcoach carriersCharter, tour and shuttle operators with their own hours rules and bus terminal inspections.
- Private fleetsDistributors, contractors and processors that run their own trucks and are motor carriers for that reason.
How we work
The review an inspector would run, before they run it
- 01
Map the operation
We list your vehicles, drivers, terminals and lanes, and decide which federal and state rules apply to each.
- 02
Review and report
We review your records the way an investigator samples them and give you a written gap report, with every finding cited to its rule and ordered by consequence.
- 03
Fix and keep it clean
If you choose, we rebuild the records and processes, check them again, and help keep the program from drifting back.
The gap report is yours whether or not you hire us to fix what it finds.
How we approach it
Accurate, current and plain spoken
- Every finding cites its ruleWe point to the section of the federal regulations, the California Vehicle Code or Title 13 behind each finding, so you can see why it matters.
- Current rules, not old checklistsCompliance guidance ages fast. California’s Employer Pull Notice program, for example, has had to be run electronically since April 1, 2026, and much published guidance still describes paper.
- The California layer, not just federalCHP terminal inspections, the Motor Carrier Permit and California’s intrastate hours rules sit on top of the federal program, and we cover both.
- Clear about scopeWe tell you when a question belongs with an attorney, a registered training provider or another professional.
Where we work
California first, with West Coast reach
- CaliforniaOn-site and remote service anywhere in the state.
- Oregon, Washington and ArizonaRemote coverage of the federal program and of what changes when your trucks enter California, with on-site options depending on schedule and requirements.
What we do not do
Being clear about scope
We are compliance consultants, not a law firm, and we do not give legal advice. We do not deliver entry-level driver training, which must come from a provider on FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry, and we do not handle customs or border agency filings. When a question is outside our scope, we will say so and point you to the right kind of professional.
Common questions
About working with us
What does DOT Compliance Solutions do?
We are a regulatory compliance consulting firm for motor carriers. We review and build the programs that federal FMCSA rules and California CHP and DMV requirements call for, including driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, hours of service, vehicle maintenance records, registrations and permits, and audit and terminal inspection readiness.
Who do you work with?
Property carriers from owner-operators to mid-size fleets, school bus and pupil transportation operators, passenger and motorcoach carriers, and private fleets that haul their own goods. The rules differ by operation, so we start by mapping which ones apply to yours.
Are you a law firm?
No. We are compliance consultants, not attorneys, and we do not provide legal advice. When a question belongs with a lawyer, such as worker classification, contract disputes or litigation, we say so and point you to the right kind of professional.
Do you work outside California?
Yes. California carriers get on-site and remote service anywhere in the state. Carriers in Oregon, Washington and Arizona are served remotely, and depending on the schedule and requirements there may be options for on-site work.
How does working with you start?
With a conversation about your operation: vehicles, drivers, terminals, lanes and any deadline on a letter or notice. From there we run the review an investigator would run and give you a written gap report, whether or not you hire us to fix what it finds.
